Achievement Page

Since our organisation has been set up in 2001, it has built a sound reputation among the Eritrean community inside and outside UK as a source of inspiration and an effective campaigning and lobbying body. Here are just some of our recent achievements.

EHDR has:

·        Raised the awareness level of Eritreans in the UK through its public meetings, demonstrations and various other campaigns.

·        Forced the daunting agents of the government of Eritrea (PFDJ) to back off from disrupting independent public gatherings.

·        Successfully rallied for support of friends of Eritrea to highlight the human and democratic rights abuses that are taking place in Eritrea.

·        Challenged the Maltese government for deporting Eritrean refugees back to Eritrea.  Our campaign, together with other human rights agencies and Eritrean civil societies, managed to publicise the injustice all over the world.  Currently, the Maltese government, after learning the deported were put straight in jail, has temporarily stopped its deportation proceedings.

·        Forced the government of Eritrea to announce the names of the war dead on 21 June 2003. Eritrea lost over 20,000 young men and women in its recent war against Ethiopia (1998-2000). The family members were not notified of the deaths of their children who perished in the war until June 2003. EHDR-UK, and many other human rights and pro-democracy groups, campaigned to have the Eritrean government release the names of the war-dead.
