News - 17 Nov 2004
Sources
at Halibet Hospital have confirmed that, as of November
10, the number of people who died in the hospital from wounds sustained in
the shootings in Adi Abeito had reached 21.
Of
the 21, at least 6 were "almost dead on arrival", according to a
source, and died the same day they were admitted to the hospital.
This
brings the number of people killed from the melee of Adi Abeito to 40.
It
may not be possible to find the total number of Eritreans who have died
from the tragedy of Adi Abeyto since some of the wounded have been
moved to Orota Hospital (previously Mekane Hiwet) in
Asmara.
Meanwhile,
round-ups and arbitrary arrests have continued throughout the country. In
Asmara, roadblocks are installed and soldiers scattered in street corners
during evenings one district/quarter at a time. Roundups have also been
reported in Dekemhare, Barentu and in all roads connecting Eritrean towns.
