EHDR-UK Attempts to Reconcile Differences in Eritrean Communities in UK

London, 18 July 2003

In an effort to reconcile differences that exist between various Eritrean communities in United Kingdom, EHDR-UK has taken the initiative to contend with issues that can facilitate better communication. In order to raise community awareness, promote healthy debate and build bridges amongst diverse communities, EHDR-UK is making efforts to establish a dialogue with the religious communities in London.

The letter stated the fact that Eritrean communities are divided not only along the lines of political allegiance but also along religious, ethnic and linguistic lines. It also stated that such divides are reflections of a contrived setup that is ruling our lives – one that has, unfortunately, ruled out our civic duties and rationale.

EHDR-UK believes that civil societies, including religious institutions, play key roles in struggling against the inroads of human rights abuses throughout the world.  Based on that conception, it called upon the religious communities to deal with the human rights abuses that are taking place in Eritrea with determined sincerity.
