FAX Campaign on Martyrs’ Day

June 20, 2003

EHDR-UK commemorated Martyr’s by launching a FAX campaign directed at hundreds of government and non-government institutions by pleading with them to pay heed to the human rights abuses that are taking place in the country. The message that was FAXed stated that Martyrs’ Day becomes meaningless when the government is inconsiderately trampling people’s basic rights, which tens of thousands of martyrs fought for.  The message which was written in English, Tigrinya and Arabic carried calls with regards to freedom of press, justice to the illegally imprisoned citizens and respite to the exploited youth.   It also called for the government security agents to stop muzzling and harassing conscientious citizens unnecessarily. Last but not least, EHDR-UK took notice of the parents who are deprived of the death notification of their martyred children and the faithful who are not allowed to practise their chosen faith.
