Death
of an Eritrean in a Detention Centre in London
EHDR-UK
is saddened and alarmed to learn the death of an Eritrean, Bereket
Yohannes (26), in Harmsworth Detention Centre near Heathrow on Friday 20
January 2006. Reports
reaching us indicate that he committed suicide while in detention.
We are deeply concerned
that such tragic death could take place in such institution and we call on
the authorities to investigate the circumstances of Bereket's tragic death
and also look at the situation with other immigration detainees.
We
