PRESS RELEASE
REPORT
OF THE DEMONSTRATION IN LONDON
Last
Friday, on 19 August 2005, another peaceful demonstration was held outside
Eritrean Embassy in London. The
demonstration started around 2pm and ended at 3:30pm. Despite the rain and bad weather, more than 50 Eritreans
attended the demonstration to protest against the human rights violations
in Eritrea. The demonstrators
condemned the killing of 161 youth in Wi'a detention camp and called on
the government to bring those responsible to justice.
They called for a full investigation and a public statement on the
tragic incident. Furthermore,
the demonstrators also called on the government to stop the illegal
detention of elderly parents whose adult children have left the country
and called for an immediate and unconditional release of those already
detained. The demonstrators
held placards and shouted slogans calling for the government to stop
interfering in religious affairs, to respect human rights, to release
political prisoners and to institute democratic governance.
The demonstration ended when a letter containing the demands of the
protestors was handed in to the Ambassador's secretary.
